Else Hagen, a central figure in Norwegian modernism, was born in 1914 in Eydehavn, Arendal. She is known for her large and spectacular public art projects, including the "Samfund" in the Norwegian Parliament's staircase hall.
This exhibition, a collaboration with the National Museum, Stavanger Art Museum, and Trondheim Art Museum, highlights her contributions and connects modernism with contemporary family and societal life. Hagen's works are also part of Kunstsilo's collection, reinforcing the museum's focus on promoting Nordic modernism.
Karl Olav Segrov Mortensen, the program manager at Kunstsilo, remarks, "Hagen has gone under the radar for many, but she was a prominent and socially engaged artist in Norway during the post-war era. She was at the heart of the modern art sphere while also being a homemaker. This exhibition connects modernism to contemporary family and social life."
