Will take on the position as Head of programming

News 30.03.2023

Effective now, Karl Olav Segrov Mortensen will become Head of Programming at Kunstsilo until the opening of the museum next year. As a consequence he is going to lead the museum’s work of putting together a comprehensive program of exhibitions, events and activities for the first two years of its operations.

“I feel like a child who’s been given a key to a sweets shop. It’s incredibly exciting to be allowed to work together with talented people for the purpose of buidling a good, solid program. I’m looking forward to diving into this job.”

Karl Olav Segrov Mortensen has been educated as an art historian and has worked at the museum since 2006 as a curator, head of audience experience and events manager. For the last three years he has worked on his doctorate on Marianne Heske’s iconic artwork Project Gjerdeløa, which is a part of the Tangen Collection and will occupy a central place in Kunstsilo.

“We are going to have a large, broad exhibition program. The starting point for it lies in our own collections. However, we are  also going to look after the local arts scene. We have to remain relevant and feature trends that are happening today. I would also like to see how we can work slightly differently with parts of the exhibitions and try to convey what is in them in new ways. It’s important that we realize certain high artistic ambitions that we have as well as simultaneously working to satisfy a broad and diverse audience,” says Mortensen, who will be responsible for the museum’s program in 2024 and 2025. “First and foremost, I’m going to construct an artistic profile utilising internal resources as well as drawing on external advice rooted in a high level of artistic expertise. And we’re going to create a framework for the programming and which direction we’re going to take. I really enjoy working with people, thinking out loud and getting different perspectives on what we are doing, so I’m really looking forward to this. This is a big responsibility, and an exciting challenge,” he says.
